In June 2001, exactly when the legalization of same sex marriage was introduced to the world in Dutch law, we performed publicly, in a highly theatrical gesture, our wedding and ten days honeymoon in the foyer of the Rotterdam City Hall. It formed part of the official cultural program of the city of Rotterdam and was open to all city residents. The civil ceremony was uniquely conducted by the mayor himself, Mr. Ivo Opstelten. Through a series of events and an unusual exhibition, this work questions the implications of a political change on individuals and the effect of a role model in society.
