In Helsinki, Gil & Moti discovered government-run slot machines can be found in every supermarket and are thus completely intertwined with everyday life. The most popular gambling games mirror a folkloric fantasy of Finland, set in unspoiled nature, with Emma the cheerful farmer’s wife, Kulta Jaska the gold digger and sexy Amazons. This fantasy world is in a stark contrast to the stories of the various immigrants that Gil & Moti meet at the slot machines. The artists amplify this disconnect by playing these popular figures in real life.
